Lagrangian Observation of the Kuroshio Current by Surface Drifters in 2019

In this research, the features of Kuroshio Current in 2019 were studied based on observations 29 self-developed surface current experiment drifters deployed western Pacific Ocean and East China Sea. The flow pattern velocity magnitude observed largely consistent with climatology historical drifter dataset, but they still exhibited distinctive characteristics. intrusion into South Sea spring was by a group crossing Luzon Strait from east to west, which is notable departure non-intrusion noted occur most records. A strong also observed, taking an anti-cyclonic turn northeast Taiwan Island. Both trajectories altimeter-derived dynamical topography captured large meander south Japan 2019, path having maximum offshore distance 470 km. addition, Lagrangian statistics (lateral diffusivity, integral time scale, space scale) estimated for four selected regions adequate samplings. lateral diffusivity had values along segment small continental shelf scales ranged 0.8 3.7 days, corresponding scale 19~128
